Descended from the long-lived DeVille, the front-wheel-drive DTS luxury sedan debuted for the 2006 model year without dramatic change in appearance or powertrain. Cadillac's Northstar 4.6-liter V8 engine is offered in a choice of two power configurations. Only a single trim level is available, but several option packages may be added at extra cost. Six airbags are standard, including an "industry first" dual-depth front-passenger airbag. For nearly two decades, the DeVille accounted for almost half of Cadillac sales. Its successor, the DTS, might lack a vibrant personality, yet it continues to exude a certain appeal—especially for the, shall we say, more seasoned customers.
